National Dog Day 2018!

Hey Woofa’s,

National Dog Day is celebrated each year on 26th August, mainly in America.

I’m ashamed to admit it but I did not know this day existed.  BUT I do now!!!  Better late than never I say!!

This celebratory day originated in America and I believe it’s definitely a day for Australia to Adopt!    Colleen Paige is the founder of National Dog Day, as well as many other Pet Days.

Our Dogs deserve to be celebrated they give unconditionally and are more loyal than most of the people we know.  They’re not here for a very long time and they ALL deserve the utmost best.

Did you know, roughly 23 dogs are put down every hour in Australia because they don’t have a loving home to go to??

How sad is that?  This is WHY WE NEED TO BRING AWARENESS TO NATIONAL DOG DAY!!!!

WHAT IS NATIONAL DOG DAY?

National Dog Day is a day put aside for ALL DOG BREEDS (Pure and Mixed).   It is here to help bring the attention to the Public (You and I)  of the number of dogs that need rescuing each year!

Dogs right now (all over the world) are being terribly mistreated in puppy mills, by backyard breeders, by people dumping them, using them to fight, using them as bait dogs and using them for other atrocities.

National Dog Day honours family dogs, working dogs, therapy dogs, dogs in all work conditions and our own pet doggies.

National Dog Day is against any kind of ‘Breed Ban’.    Dogs are the way they are because man has made them that way.

NDD encourages those out looking to buy a dog to go to the rescue shelters, pounds or any facility in your local area that rescues dogs first.

Most  rescue facilities have temperament testing.   The aim of rescue places is to find the best fit for the dog as well as for those adopting the dog.

Sadly, millions of dogs are killed all over the world each year because they’re unwanted.

National Dog Day is here to recognise the dogs that have been mistreated, and to give them a second chance by being adopted by a loving family.

Dogs give unconditional love, they deserve our love and patience.

HOW DID NATIONAL DOG DAY BEGIN?

National Dog Day was founded by Colleen Paige in 2004.

Colleen Paige is considered one of America’s leading Pet & Family Lifestyle Experts. She is an animal behaviorist, interior designer, writer, photographer, author of The Good Behavior Book For Dogs (Rockport/Quarry Books).

She is a mother, wife and the brainchild behind a plethora of worldwide trending holidays, such as National Dog Day, National Cat Day, National Puppy Day, National Pet Day, National Wildlife Day and many more.

The 26th August is a significant date for Colleen because it was when her father, actor Robert Paige, first adopted their family dog.

Colleen has been a contributing expert for DogTime.com and OK! Celebrity Magazine. Her highly sought-after advice ranges from pet and wild animal behavior to interior design, pet fashion, animal nutrition and as a former Paramedic, pet + child safety.

Colleen’s lifesaving mission to create holidays such as National Dog Day, National Cat Day and National Puppy Day, have not only helped to save millions of unwanted pets in the last ten years but the social media buzz is practically palpable, with these days consistently trending #1 worldwide on Twitter, as well as with Google and Yahoo trends.

Australia needs to adopt this day, don’t you agree?

WHAT CAN WE DO TO CELEBRATE?

Even though Colleen is in America and we are here in Australia, we can still celebrate National Dog Day.

Google your local Council and see if they have anything organised, if not, bring National Dog Day to their attention.

SOME CELEBRATION IDEAS!

  1. Gather a few pooches around for a pooch party.
  2. Hang out at the Dog Park and let everyone know it’s National Dog Day and what it means.
  3. If you don’t feel like being social, or your dog isn’t overly social, celebrate your fur babies by spoiling them at home for the day.
  4. Donate to your local Rescue Shelter.
  5. Take your fur babies out to a Dog Friendly Cafe, let everyone know it’s National Dog Day.
  6. Take them for a drive to their favourite beach or area to run free.
  7. Do what makes them happy.
  8. Recognise that not every dog is as pampered as your pooch.
  9. If you know of anyone looking to buy a dog send them in the direction of Rescue places, bring awareness to those dogs that deserve a second chance at a loving family.
  10. Or just snuggle with them on the lounge watching your favourite show (which is probably what I’ll be doing because Australia is very dry and cold at the moment.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?

On Sunday 26th August, celebrate your dog.

Let everyone you see, know that it’s National Dog Day and what that means.

Have fun with your dog.

Recognise that National Dog Day is to bring awareness to ALL the dogs that Need Adopting. Not all dogs are as pampered as our dogs.
