Hey Woofa’s,
Valentine’s Day is a day that some hate, some love and some don’t rate at all! I think it depends what stage of life you’re in as to how you feel (or don’t feel) about it.
Us humans, I don’t think we have love down pat just yet. For us, love comes with conditions (in a way), because we have love baggage.
Our love baggage comes from a few different places like our grandparents, our parents, family love, friends love, and relationship love.
Depending on your age, somewhere down the line all these kinds of loves have had (or will have) an affect on us, be it good or not so good.
The good kind of love, we may take for granted, however the not so good love, we carry around with us and it can tend to effect other areas of our lives.
For Example – your grandparents and parents may have had a great relationship so when it comes to relationships you expect that kind of love, but you may not get it!
You may have had a bad relationship that has made it hard for you to trust someone with love again.
You might be in love with someone but are scared to tell them.
A friend may have betrayed the love you have for them etc etc…..
Humans are messy at love.
Well, I think we can all learn a lesson from our dogs when it comes to love.
Dogs aren’t here for a long time, 15-18 years if you’re lucky, and I know they have a much better handle on the love thing than us humans do.
They love unconditionally……………..no strings attached………it’s as simple as that.
It’s why we mourn them so much once they’re no longer with us.
And I find (I’ve said this before) that I can love a dog back instantly, no strings attached, but when it comes to humans, it’s not so easy.
It’s not to say I don’t love the humans in my circle, I do, but it took me a lot longer to, than what it does with dogs.
Is it the same with you?
Well here’s just a few reasons why: –
That’s just 24 reasons off the cuff, I’m sure there’s more.
If you can think of any, let us know in the comments below.
Dog’s show all these qualities up front, if you’re lucky enough to find some of these qualities in a human, guaranteed it took you a while to discover them all.
Even when dogs are greeting each other for the first time, they sniff, do a few stances and as soon as they feel all is good, they’re off and playing.
Humans, when meeting for the first time are on guard, not knowing how much of a wall to let down and show the other person etc etc……you get my drift.
So This Valentine’s Day look into your dog’s eyes (if they allow that) and see the love they have for you, and show them the love you have for them, then go and try and share that unconditional love with a human.
It may take baby steps but it’s something we can learn from our dogs.
