Happy National Dog Day 2020!

Hey Woofa’s,

Happy National Dog Day 2020!

National Dog Day is celebrated each year on 26th August, only in America ATM!

This celebratory day originated in America and I believe it’s definitely a day for Australia to Adopt!

Colleen Paige is the founder of National Dog Day.

Our Dogs deserve to be celebrated, they give so much to us unconditionally.

Did you know, roughly 23 dogs are put down every hour in Australia because they don’t have a loving home to go to??

How sad is that?

This is WHY WE NEED TO BRING AWARENESS TO NATIONAL DOG DAY!!!!

WHAT IS NATIONAL DOG DAY?

National Dog Day is a day put aside for ALL DOG BREEDS (Pure and Mixed).   It is here to help bring the attention to the Public (You and I)  of the number of dogs that need rescuing each year!

Dogs right now (all over the world) are being terribly mistreated in puppy mills, by backyard breeders, by people dumping them, using them to fight, using them as bait dogs and using them for other atrocities.

National Dog Day honours ALL DOGS!

NDD encourages people to buy a dog from rescue shelters, pounds or any facility in your local area that rescues dogs.

Most  rescue facilities have temperament testing.   The aim of rescue places is to find the best fit for the dog as well as for those adopting the dog.

Sadly, millions of dogs are killed all over the world each year because they’re unwanted.

National Dog Day is here to recognise the dogs that have been mistreated, and to give them a second chance by being adopted into a loving family.

These dogs deserve so much more.

WILSON’S STORY!

Wilson is our featured dog in the picture for a reason.

Wilson’s NOW owners have beautiful souls.  I’ve groomed all their dogs and all bar 2 have been rescue dogs.

Wilson came into their lives at least 5-6 years ago.

He came to me with wheels holding up his back legs!  Even so he was scooting around like there was no tomorrow.

His previous owners didn’t treat him well at all!!

Wilson is paralysed in his back legs, probably because he was beaten.

His now owners are dedicated to his quality of life!

Each and every day Wilson wears a nappy and pads.   When he goes to the loo he just goes.  He no longer has control over that area because of what happened to him.

The first time I groomed him I felt honoured that they trusted me.

I said to Wilson, ‘You had a-hole owners before but now you’ve struck gold’, he looked at me and licked my chin.

It was like he knew!

To this day Wilson melts my heart.   I can’t imagine ANYONE mistreating him, but they did.

The social media buzz is practically palpable, with these days consistently trending #1 worldwide on Twitter, as well as with Google and Yahoo trends.

Australia needs to adopt this day, don’t you agree?

WHAT CAN WE DO TO CELEBRATE?

Let’s get this rolling in Australia.

Yes I know we’re currently under some restrictions but we can still celebrate.

Bring National Dog Day to your Local Council’s attention.

SOME CELEBRATION IDEAS!

  1. Hold an on-line pooch party with other friends who have dogs.
  2. Hang out at the Dog Park (while socially distancing of course) and let everyone know it’s National Dog Day and what it means.
  3. If you don’t feel like being social, or your dog isn’t overly social, celebrate your fur babies by spoiling them at home for the day.
  4. Donate to your local Rescue Shelter.
  5. Take your fur babies out to a Dog Friendly Cafe (as long as Covid-19 measures are in place), let everyone know it’s National Dog Day.
  6. Take them for a drive to their favourite beach or area to run free.
  7. Do what makes your dog happy.
  8. Recognise that not every dog is as pampered as your pooch.
  9. If you know of anyone looking to buy a dog send them in the direction of Rescue places, bring awareness to those dogs that deserve a second chance at a loving family.
  10. Or just snuggle with them on the lounge watching your favourite show (which is probably what I’ll be doing because Australia is very dry and cold at the moment.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?

On 26th August, celebrate your dog.

Let everyone you speak to know that it’s National Dog Day and what that means.

Have fun with your dog.

Recognise that National Dog Day brings awareness to ALL the dogs that Need Adopting.

Not all dogs are as pampered as our dogs.

All Dogs deserve to be loved.

SPREAD THE WORD ON NATIONAL DOG DAY!!
