Happy Mother’s Day – Because Dog Mums Matter Too!

Hey Woofa’s,

Happy Mother’s Day to all the Dog Mums out there, because we do matter too!

I’ve been saying all week that I can’t believe it’s May already!

It only feels like we just got over the bushfires and drought let alone realising we’re already in May!!  I mean where did that time go?

I know I keep saying it but the current time we are in seems very surreal.

While they are slowly trying to ease our restrictions we were still only allowed two people to visit a household this Mother’s Day.

I’m an only child so for me to see my mum (and dad) it was fine.

Billy, Dean and I visited my parents for a few hours first and then we had lunch with Dean’s mum (dad & his Nan), so we were able to keep it safe.

Although, seeing your parents and not being able to give them a hug or kiss hello (& goodbye) was a little heart breaking but we’re grateful we got to see them at all.

I don’t have kids myself so Billy is my child and I was soooo happy when I opened my present and found my favourite brand of winter pj’s – Peter Alexander.  Thanks Billy.

I know people either feel sorry for me or think I’m crazy but Billy (and before him Henry & Isabel) are like my children.

DOG MUMS MATTER TOO – WHY?

We do a lot of jobs that are very similar to a mum with 2 legged kids.

  • We feed our fur babies everyday;
  • We clean up after our fur babies go potty & check the quality of their poo;
  • We clean up after our fur babies eat;
  • We make sure our fur babies have enough water;
  • We play with our fur babies, inside AND outside;
  • We don’t disturb our fur babies while they’re sleeping;
  • Our fur babies also nap with us;
  • We make sure we’re giving our fur kids a nutritional diet;
  • We have to make sure we choose the right Vet, groomer, babysitter, trainer etc
  • We make sure their toys aren’t dangerous to play with;
  • We try to socialise them with others;
  • We teach them good behaviours;
  • We’re selective in choosing clothes for them;
  • We make sure they have comfy beds, if they’re not sleeping in our own bed;
  • We take them to school to learn & socialise – dog training/puppy training etc
  • We choose appropriate places to take them when dining out;
  • We make sure their friends are fun and playful;
  • We supervise them at the park;
  • We make sure they can swim before taking them to the beach or put life jackets on them;
  • We worry when they’re not well & have sleepless nights until they’re better;
  • Our fur kids follow our every move around the house e.g.; no peeing or showering in private etc
  • We choose fur kid friendly holidays;
  • We buy camera’s so we can monitor them while they’re sleeping;
  • We talk to them all the time;
  • We worry that they’re happy and whether we’re doing a good job at being a Dog Mumma;
  • We find patience we never thought we had when they decide to misbehave in public;
  • Our electronic devices are filled with cute pictures and videos of our fur kids;
  • We can’t stop talking about our fur kids when we’re out to dinner with others;
  • We miss them terribly when we’re away from them;
  • We have a special bond with our fur kids;
  • We are ever so grateful to have them in our lives; losing them hurts beyond words;
  • Our hearts are covered in paw prints;
  • We only share certain things and behaviours with other Fur Baby Parents;
  • We try to be upset when they do naughty things but their puppy dog eyes melt us so much we forget;
  • We take them and restrain them on car rides;
  • We put the TV on for them to watch or the radio on for them to listen to;
  • We cater to their every need;
  • We know the difference between their barks;
  • We know all their likes and dislikes – food wise, behaviour wise etc
  • We’ve had to stop them from eating something disgusting
  • We have bags full of their favourite things when we take them to stay overnight at their grandparents place.

Some might be horrified when I relate being a dog mum to being a human child mum, yes I do know there are differences as well!!!

What I’m pointing at is, there ARE SOME similarities between the two, which is WHY we should not be ignored on Mother’s Day.

I hope you spoilt the dog momma in your life this Mother’s Day.

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY TO ALL THE DOG MUMMA’S OUT THERE!

IN THE COMMENTS BELOWBILLY WOULD LIKE TO KNOWWHAT YOUR FUR BABY GOT YOU FOR MOTHER’S DAY?
