Hey Woofa’s
Today 26th August, is International Dog Day.
What does that mean?
This day is a reminder of the unwavering loyalty and affection dogs offer, emphasizing our responsibilities as pet owners.
International Dog Day was founded by Colleen Paige in 2004. She chose 26th August because that is the day her family adopted their first dog (a Sheltie) from their local animal shelter, when she was 10 years old.
She is a well-known animal advocate and pet lifestyle expert.
She established this day to highlight the significance of adopting and caring for dogs.
As well as to support the efforts of animal shelters and rescue organizations.
The idea was to create an annual occasion that not only celebrates dogs but also educates the public on responsible pet care, while addressing issues like animal abuse and neglect.
Over the years, this day has gained recognition worldwide as a platform to promote better conditions and treatment for dogs.
