Hey Woofa’s,
Happy Australia Day 2022!
Just when we thought the pandemic might be over by now………………..NOPE!
I mean we’re heading into the 3rd year now, what gives?
Most people I talk to are over it and just want to get on with their lives. We just have to learn to live with it, is most people’s sentiment!
The reason I bring this up is because for another Australia Day our local community festivities have been cancelled : (
While I won’t miss the fireworks because it sends most of the dogs in the neighbourhood bonkers, including Billy, it’s sad that this is still going on.
The cancelling of things, being restricted in what we can and can’t do and where we can and can’t go. It’s very frustrating.
Anyway, let’s focus on what we CAN DO this AUSTRALIA DAY and how can we include our dogs?
Basically the answer to this question is pretty simple – whatever makes you happy!
Celebrate this day doing whatever you want but do it with your dog of course : )
Some ideas to get you thinking about what you want to do are:
You guys get the idea, do something or do nothing, but whatever you do, do it with your dog and have fun doing it.
Also be aware that if your dog doesn’t like fireworks, that someone is home with them if they’re going off in your area!
Australia Day is the official National Day of Australia! It is celebrated annually on 26 January each year.
It marks the anniversary of the 1788 arrival of the First Fleet of British Ships At Port Jackson, New South Wales and the rising of the flag of Great Britain at Sydney Cove by Governor Arthur Phillip.
However, to various Indigenous Australians (and those sympathetic to their cause) Australia Day is known as ‘Invasion Day’ or ‘Survival Day’!
This is as a protest to what they see as the celebration of an invasion of the continent by Europeans.
Compared to other Countries we are a young Country and we get it wrong sometimes.
All we can do is learn from our ancestor’s mistakes and Do Much Better!
Regardless of your stand on this I found this recent ad about Australia Day, a tad comforting because it’s what we should ALL practice.
The message behind the ad is this – This is the Story of Australia – the story of an extraordinary nation.
The Story begins 60,000 years ago. New chapters are written every day. On Australia Day, we reflect on our history, its highs and its lows.
We respect the stories of others. And we celebrate our nation, its achievements and most of all, its people. We’re all part of the story.
Today is Australia Day, whether you celebrate the day or not, do something fun with your dog.
Happy Australia Day Woofa’s!
