Hey Woofa’s,
This year I think Australia Day will take on a different emotion.
Most of our Country has been on fire for at least 4 months now. Thankfully parts have now had some rain and most of the fires are out for the time being.
However, there are still some fires burning strong and uncontrollable.
Sadly, many have lost homes and businesses and whole towns have been destroyed.
Horrifically, some have lost lives, (almost 40 people), most recently, ever so kind gentlemen from the US had their fire fighting plane crash!!!
Then there’s the devastation on the wildlife population almost 1.25 billion animals native to Australia have perished, amongst those nearly 8,400 Koala’s, just to name a few.
People spending their Christmas and School Holidays found themselves stuck in a Hollywood Movie scene, standing on the beaches or in boats, down the South Coast while wild fires ravaged all around them.
Australians feeling abandoned by our Countries Leader in our time of crisis!!!!
Those watching it from their living rooms in a state of shock at how bad this had become. All the while waiting for news from loved ones who may have been amongst it.
Waking up to a bright red sun, surrounded in smoke with burning leaves falling from the sky!!! A few times I said to Dean, ‘This is what the end of the world will look like’!!!!
The days when you would constantly clean ash out of the house and off the cars, but were so grateful that you still had a house and car to clean.
Yes This Year I think Australia Day will hold a different emotion.
We also celebrate Australian of The Year each year. People that have done remarkably extraordinary services to Australia and it’s people are usually the winners.
Well this year I think every Fireman and Woman (including ALL volunteers) deserve to be named Australians of the Year.
They have been the ones on the front of these horrific raging fires, they have put their lives on the line constantly day after day for our Country. They are the true heroes that deserve to be celebrated, and they’ll be the first to say, ‘Nah mate it’s just what you do’!!
Young Australians of the Year should go to the teenagers who were driving around and rescuing burnt Koala’s in their car!!!!
Australia has copped a blow, we burnt to buggery.
Because we burnt, our small towns missed out. They missed the holiday makers flocking to see their beautiful towns.
Structures and buildings may have been destroyed but the Aussie spirit is as strong as you can get!
This won’t stop us – we will come back from this – much stronger.
We don’t ask for much, actually we never ask for anything, however we always seem to be there when others need it.
We need your support, don’t shy away from these small towns and places, go visit them and show them that we care.
Come and see Australia in it’s rawest and truest form, visit the main Cities if you have to, BUT I can guarantee you the smaller towns are the heart of Australians.
COME DOWN UNDER – LEND A HAND AND HAVE A BEER WITH A MATE!!!
I love my Country, horrific things have happened here of late.
Our true heroes are the ones staring raging fires in the face (some never came home from that battle).
Don’t shy away from this Beautiful Country we call Australia, head on over and have a beer with a mate!

Very well said! I totally agree that every fire fighter should be honoured! They are definitely the true heroes.
